Emerging Viruses in Cucurbits Working Group

The Emerging Viruses in Cucurbits Working Group seeks to “improve communication and knowledge about viruses across the cucurbit industry and develop strategies to successfully identify and mitigate virus threats to cucurbit production in the United States.”

Brian Forschler

Brian’s research program has focused on developing decision criteria for cost-effective and environmentally conscious management of structural and urban pests. His program also prioritizes distributing IPM information to policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.

Phillip Kaufman

Dr. Kaufman’s research has focused on developing and improving IPM systems for livestock and companion animals. His IPM efforts have included basic cultural and physical control strategies, adaptation of biological approaches, and the preservation of existing pesticides through resistance monitoring. Phillip’s work has also involved the development of novel lower-toxicity pesticides.

A dedicated, zealous entomologist, Gene was a worldwide expert on the ecology and management of insects in sugarcane agroecosystems. Gene applied a multidisciplinary approach to pest control that prioritized applied ecology and sustainable principles to reduce insecticide use.
